chance to experience college life for a day this month when they
visited the UCSD campus to hear “kid friendly” college-style
lectures, and to meet and lunch with faculty and UCSD
undergraduates.
The visit, sponsored by Student Educational Advancement (SEA) with
the California Student Opportunity and Access Program (Cal-SOAP),
featured lectures conducted by Andrea Chiba, Ph.D., of UCSD’s
Cognitive Science Department; Richard Lieber, Ph.D., of
Bioengineering; Alan Lechusza, graduate student in the Music
Department, and Varda Levram-Ellisman, Ph.D., of Pharmacology.
Welcoming remarks were conducted by Joseph Watson, Vice Chancellor
of UCSD Student Affairs.
The visiting elementary students also got a chance to meet and talk
with UCSD undergraduates Sara Corder, Ilham Bashir, Litza Ferrer and
Monica Lozano who spoke to the youngsters on college life and
academic preparation.
